Vetrina is inspired by the origins of Roman banquets and buffet dining. In Roman times, the Convivium Romanum was their version of communal dining, and the Triclinium featured diners reclining around a table upon which food was served. Roman Mediterranean banquets were lavish and significant social events that reflected the wealth, status, and power of the host. We draw inspiration from this tradition in our design by emphasizing the importance of communal tables in the space, reinforcing the social aspects of community dining. The setting of the Triclinium also serves as inspiration for the floor pattern design. Roman architecture often features grand arches used as doorways, windows, or passageways. Pillars served not only as structural supports but also as decorative elements, often carved with intricate details that conveyed a sense of grandeur.

We incorporate Roman-inspired interior design through the use of geometric forms combined with artistic elements—reflected in fabric upholstery, ceiling profiles, and furniture detailing. The Roman mosaic art form known as tesserae is a beautiful and intricate technique that involves creating images or patterns using small, colored pieces of stone, glass, or ceramic tiles. The use of mosaic tesserae was widespread throughout the Roman Empire, including in Cyprus, and served both decorative and narrative purposes, often depicting scenes from mythology, daily life, and nature.

Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, is deeply connected to Cyprus, believed to be her mythological birthplace. As one of the most revered deities in Greek and Roman mythology, her influence has left a lasting legacy on the island’s culture, art, and identity. Swans, symbols of love and beauty often associated with Aphrodite, will inspire distinct design elements in the space – reflected in cast hardware, tableware, and material tones.
